Stevie screamed.

The snake tilted its head.

Stevie screamed again.

The snake flicked its tongue.

Stevie screamed one more time. He was shaking all over. His heart was pounding.

But the snake just sat there.

Stevie looked at it more closely. The snake didn’t look slimy. Of course, it was green. So how could you tell?

There was only one way to find out.

Stevie reached out slowly and touched the snake on its back. The snake didn’t feel slimy at all!

And it didn’t seem to mind being touched. In fact, it even looked kind of friendly.

Stevie realized that he had stopped shaking. And his heart wasn’t pounding anymore, either.

He was still nervous. But he was no longer afraid of this snake!
